The perfect place to launch into Fastpacking
The tip of Vancouver Island! Have you been?
Join us for an amazing few days exploring the Cape Scott Provincial Park area at the Northern tip of Vancouver Island this Fall. The terrain here allows for excellent runnable terrain out to some of the most stunning beaches you will ever see. We will even visit the iconic lighthouse that stands as a beacon of safety on our coast. Believe it or not, the trail is relatively flat with minimal elevation change making this trip the perfect place to clock some kilometers while in run stride and is ideal for first time fastpackers.
Our trip will begin and end at the Cape Scott Trailhead outside of Port Hardy. We have added this trip back onto the calendar for 2022 with the following thoughts in mind…… the weather can actually be great in April, there are no crowds and the fire bans will be non existent meaning that we can enjoy beachside campfires each night. With only the essentials plus a few comforts, we want this to truly be a challenging yet enjoyable adventure.
Day 1: Arrive to Port Hardy in the afternoon and make your way to our cabin accommodations! Get organized and ready for an early departure the next day.
Day 1: Travel to Trailhead. Trailhead to Nels Bight - 13km + beach exploration
Day 2: 15km - 20km (Cape Scott Lighthouse & Nissen Bite)
Day 3: 13-17km (Nels Bite, San Joseph Bay return to trailhead)
Participants should have previous ultra distance experience of 25km and commit to some lead-up training of running with a loaded pack on and moving in technical terrain.
We gratefully acknowledge that this trip takes place on the unceded traditional lands of the Tlatlasikwala, Nakumgilisala and Yutlinuk First Nations people. We thank them for sharing their lands with us.
